Welcome to The Kitchen Medic Anglesey Football League.
Saturday14th of November
With the whole of the Kitchen Medic Anglesey Football League, programme falling foul of the weather it was left to Trearddur Bay United, in the NWCFA Junior Cup, to beat both the weather and visitors Bethesda Reserves to move safely into the last eight. They were off the mark quickly with Barry Haigh forcing the ball home in a goal-mouth scramble [4]. Visitors Bethesda shrugged off the set-back and were level on 18 minutes when a Sion Lock drive from just inside the box found its way into the bottom corner. Both sides battled with the heavy conditions and the half ended all square.
The Bay were quick off the mark again and with barely a minute gone in the second period, Jacky Welsh back headed a long throw into the top far corner to put them ahead. Again the visitors were not unduly worried and fought back to 2-2 when Mattie Jones curled a shot in from some 20 yards. The game then developed into a midfield battle as both teams fought for control and it was Trearddur Bay who gained the advantage when Barry Roberts picked the ball up in his own half and beat two defenders before going on to chip the keeper [65].and make it 3-2. They increased their lead through Ian Williams who collected the ball on the half-way line ran on, played a neat one-two with Barry Haigh before striking an unstoppable shot into the top corner [78]. If the Bay had thought that was `game-over’ they soon found out it wasn’t as Bethesda threw everything at them in the last 12 minutes or so and twice they were grateful to keeper Rob Bentley who produced breathe taking saves to deny the visitors and see them safely into the last eight.
Trearddur Bay who are the current holders will now travel to play the winners of the Mountain Rangers v Bangor City tie which was yet another game to fall to the weather.
